Hadleigh share spoils
THURLOW NUNN LEAGUE
Hadleigh United 1
Ipswich Wanderers 1
This Suffolk derby saw a number of ex-Hadleigh players back at the Millfield in the colours of fellow mid-table side Ipswich Wanderers on Saturday.
Hadleigh began stronger, with Aaron Churchyard twice missing the target. Hadleigh suffered a blow when Anton Clarke limped off to make way for the retiring Scott Chaplin.
Ian Brown’s side went ahead after 20 minutes when a defender’s clearance rebounded into the net off Ben Garnham.
Wanderers levelled after 39 minutes when a right-wing corner from Jack Severy was headed home by Craig Stuart.
Visiting keeper James Bradbrook was limping with injury, but he still managed to dive left to keep out a penalty by Danny Thrower just before the interval following a foul by Goldfinch.
Bradbrook was replaced by substitute James Buckle for the second half, but the replacement stopper was well protected by a strong Wanderers defence.
Hadleigh’s Ben Nower was kept busier at the other end and made a particularly brave save just before the end among the flying boots in his goalmouth to prevent a dramatic winner for Wanderers.
