Weekend sport: Suds’ bad run continues

SUDBURY Rugby Club slumped to their fifth successive defeat at home to Harlow, while the town’s football side suffered their first defeat in six league matches at home to promotion-hopefuls Enfield Town.

At Whittome Field, the rugby club’s disastrous spell continued against Harlow, with their Essex visitors pursuing their chase of Holt at the top of London Two North East with a 26-16 victory which leaves Suds just four places off the bottom spot in eighth.

Over at The MEL Group Stadium, AFC were unable to recover from going into half-time two goals down, with Rhys Darg’s acrobatic kick hitting the crossbar before James Baker continued his flourishing run in front of goal from the penalty spot, but there was to be no late drama.

Sudbury face Enfield Town again on Monday night in the Ryman League Cup at their new Queen Elizabeth II Stadium (7.45pm).

In the Ridgeons League, Kirkley & Pakefield inflicted a 5-2 defeat on visitors Hadleigh United in the Premier Division, while in the First Division, Long Melford suffered a 5-1 defeat at Godmanchester Rovers, Halstead Town won 4-1 at home to Swaffham Town, and Cornard United lost 4-0 at March Town United.
