Weekend round-up: Hadleigh through in FA Cup and AFC Sudbury secure first home win

Two second-half goals from defender Mark Goldfinch secured Hadleigh United’s passage through the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup at Takeley on Saturday.

Stuart Crawford’s side won 2-0 at the Essex Senior League Premier Division side.

But Halstead Town were dumped out of the competition after a 5-0 defeat at higher-league Great Wakering Rovers.

AFC Sudbury overcame Waltham Forest 3-0 at the MEL Group Stadium with striker Jamie Forshaw scoring twice in the second half, either side of a Dave Cowley goal, to take his tally to four in three games.

In the Thurlow Nunn League First Division, Cornard United lost 1-0 at home to Braintree Town Reserves while Long Melford won 2-1 at Stowmarket Town and AFC Sudbury Reservess won 2-0 at Debenham LC.

Long Melford play at Debenham LC on Tuesday, while AFC Sudbury travel to Maldon and Tiptree (7.45pm) but Hadleigh’s scheduled game with Brightlingsea Regent has been postponed due to their cup replay.

AFC Sudbury Reserves are at home to Braintree Town Reserves on Wednesday.

In the Sky Bet Championship, Ipswich Town lost at Queens Park Rangers after a last minute goal from substitute Tom Hitchock sealed a 1-0 win for Harry Redknapp’s side.

In the cricket, Sudbury played out a general draw at relegation rivals Horsford, with Bury St Edmund’s win at Clacton meaning they are still bottom of the league, now 20 points off Horsford.
