AFC Sudbury will host divisional rivals Redbridge on Tuesday (7.45pm) in an FA Cup preliminary round replay after drawing 1-1 in north-east London on Saturday.

The Yellows fell behind after just two minutes through Joe Gent’s angled drive.

But Sudbury equalised nine minutes later through an own goal, it what was to be the last goal of the day as defences dominated.

James Baker went close for the visitors, while Alex Archer had to make a good save to keep the home side at bay.

The winners of Tuesday’s tie, which would go to extra-time and penalties if still level, would host Essex Senior League side FC Romania in the first qualifying round on Stepmber 13.

Hadleigh United have already confirmed their place after an excellent 3-1 win at higher-league Burnham Ramblers with Scott Chaplin (two) and Paul Donnelly scoring for the Brettsiders.

In the Thurlow Nunn League First Division, Long Melford’s strong start continued with a 4-0 win at March Town United for their sixth victory in their opening five games.

Halstead Town sit just behind them in the league table, in third, after a 2-1 win at home to King’s Lynn Town Reserves to make it four wins out of four games.

Cornard United have re-appointed Paul Grainger as manager but are still pointless after five matches, following a 3-1 defeat at home to Needham Market Reserves, while AFC Sudbury Reserves lost 4-2 at home to Debenham LC.

In the cricket, Hadleigh and Sudbury earned 14 points each after bad light saw match at Friars Road abandoned.

In the rugby, Sudbury got their pre-season campaign under way with a home game with Saffron Walden, in which they out-scored their opponents by five tries to three over four 20 minute sessions.
