VIDEO: Manager says league leaders held AFC to a point

AFC Sudbury manager David Batch felt his side should have had all three points against Ryman One North leaders VCD Athletic in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw.

Four days after AFC beat Barkingside 4-2 at the MEL Group Stadium the Yellows put in an impressive display against the side at the summit, but couldn’t find a winning goal in the second half.

James Baker had opened the scoring, with his 16th goal of the season, from the penalty spot in the 37th minute after Sam Clarke had been felled.

But VCD hit back two minutes before the break when the dangerous Uche Ibemere produced a fierce effort that Alex Archer couldn’t get enough behind to keep out.

AFC had much the better of the second-half chances but neither Ollie Hughes or Steve Spriggs could find a way past Nick Blue late on.

The result extends AFC’s unbeaten league run to 10 games ahead of travelling to top five side Heybridge Swifts on Saturday (3pm) but leaves them in 10th place.
