Halstead Town manager Mark Benterman believes he has a squad capable of breaking into the top six of the Thurlow Nunn League First Division.

The Rosemary Lane outfit, who finished 11th last season, have been boosted ahead of hosting Dereham Town Reserves on Saturday (3pm) after re-signing former player and academy coach Andy Joslin from Stanway Rovers.

The 22-year-old right-back, centre-back or central midfielder is Benterman’s biggest business from his
six new additions, with
winger Ellis Carter also returning, having been training with Braintree Town Reserves.

“Our aim really is to improve on last season, but really to break into the top six and look to the top four,” said Benterman, who returns with his side to the club he used to play for, Long Melford, on Wednesday (7.45pm).

Halstead made it eight wins from eight in pre-season with an 8-1 thrashing of Tiptree Jobserve on Saturday.

Ricky Spriggs has returned to Chelmford City, while Charlie Knight has moved to Cornard.
