THURLOW NUNN LEAGUE FIRST DIVISION
Halstead Town 1
March Town 0
Halstead completed their first double of the season. The scoreline matched that of the first game and reflected another tight match, a winner from Cameron Storie clinching the points.
Halstead had to shuffle their pack and gave first division debuts to Harry Stoneham and Mark Dallinger, the latter from the bench.
The early exchanges saw the visitors the stronger side, their first real threat coming on 20 minutes when Ringe made a good stop low to his right.
Halstead were disjointed throughout the first half and it was only Storie’s constant probing and running upfront and Elkins’ ball play in the middle of the park that offered any threat.
It was half-an-hour before The Humbugs had their first real chance but the ball would not drop for Brown in the area.
March had a one-on-one just before the break, but the ball ran away from their forward, and Ringe gratefully fell on it.
A different Halstead came out for the second half as their passing and ball retention returned. Pleace had a goalbound shot blocked.
The Halstead midfield through Chesney and Elkins were now functioning well and Storie and Pleace were a thorn in the visiting defence’s side. March still carried a threat and a swift counter once again saw their left winger flash a shot just wide.
Halstead made some changes with Dallinger and Murray introduced, and the latter combined well with Elkins to play in Storie, who calmly slotted past the onrushing keeper. This set up a tight last 20 minutes, with March almost getting an immediate equaliser as they hit the post with a header which Ringe could only watch.
Play switched to the other end and Storie’s flicked header to Pleace presented him with an open goal and should have sealed the victory.
