From the despair of defeat Melford will have been boosted in confidence in this testing encounter against one of the strongest teams in the league on Tuesday.

This was a creditable performance by Melford who lost the match in a five minute spell before the break when two got through the otherwise strong back four.

A blistering second half performance saw Melford build on victory at March Town with five unanswered goals at home to Debenham on Saturday.

Tom Wingfield put the home side into the lead from an assist by his brother Will 29 minutes in, coming after the Hornet had seen an effort slap against the crossbar with keeper Sam Mansfield beaten.

It was not until the second half that the advantage was stretched, with Tim Attwood, who was taken to hospital with a dislocated shoulder late in the game (see page 1) on target, followed by another for Tom Wingfield.

Jack Durey and Chaise Guyon added to the tally to complete a highly-enjoyable day for the home supporters.

Melford: Mansfield, Bayliss, Toole, Thomas, Crissell, Owen, Durey (Prince 73), Guyon, T Wingfield (Hubbard 72) W Wingfield, (Westcott 66) Attwood. Unused subs: Williams, Simpson.
