Halstead Town lose five-goal thriller to Great Yarmouth

Halstead Town 2

Great Yarmouth Town 3

Following a superb display at Newmarket Town the previous week, Halstead Town turned in one of their poorest displays of the season against Great Yarmouth Town, who snatched victory with a Callum Jones strike in the last minute of the game.

Halstead made a perfect start with a goal in the first minute when Paul Tiffen was downed by Damon Wise and up stepped Lee Hurkett to comprehensively bury the penalty kick.

However, their joy only lasted three minutes before Yarmouth restored equality, Rory Burnett firing home when Halstead failed to clear.

End-to-end play followed for long periods, with Leighton Crux and Mitch Forbes both wasting good chances.

Halstead snatched the lead again when Cameron Storrie fired home with the aid of a deflection midway through the half and the hosts looked to be getting on top with James Murray leading the Yarmouth defence a merry dance with clever footwork.

But it was to no avail, as Mitch Forbes levelled and Jones fired in the winner.

Halstead: Cherry, Palmer, Raby, Hurkett, Cunliffe, Spriggs, Root, Barry (Thorogood), Tiffen (Barham), Storrie (Riches) Murray. Unused sub: Gunn.

n Town Reserves went down 2-1 at Brantham, where goalkeeper Matt Walker was back in action after injury.
