Hadleigh stage second-half comeback but 10-man AFC’s unbeaten run ends

Hadleigh United are 11 points clear at the top of the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division after five second-half goals saw them to a 5-1 win at Diss Town.

After Danny Easlea had fired Diss ahead going into the interval, Scott Chaplin started the comeback with a lob over James Bergin before goals followed from Josh Mayhew (2), James Baldes and Duane Wright.

AFC Sudbury’s run of seven games without defeat in Ryman League Division One North at Aveley, where Greg Crane was sent off after 25 minutes.

Aveley scored from the resulting penalty and despite a second-half strike from Ryan Henshaw, the home side ran out 2-1 winners to leave AFC sixth.

In the Thurlow Nunn First Division, Cornard United lost 2-0 at home to league leaders Whitton United, while Long Melford were also 2-0 losers, at Great Yarmouth Town.

Halstead Town were in action in the Red Insure Cup and won their first round tie 1-0 at home to Team Bury.

Norwich City had 31 attempts on goal, but were forced to settle for a goalless draw at home to Cardiff City in the Barclays Premier League, while David McGoldrick salvaged Ipswich Town a point in a 1-1 draw at Bolton Wanderers in the Sky Bet Championship.

In the rugby, Graham Richard’s Sudbury side remain top of London Three North East after extending their perfect record with their sixth straight win in a narrow 15-12 victory over Cantabrigians.

It leaves Suds five points clear of Campion.
