Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division champions Hadleigh gained their fourth successive win and moved up to third in the table by beating neighbours Brantham Athletic at the Millfield on Saturday.
Brantham went ahead after 29 minutes when Liam Jennings lost possession to Sean Gunn, who raced clear to score, a bad goal for Hadleigh to concede.
Liam Scopes hammered a powerful effort against the post, and just before the interval, Brantham keeper Ryan Bedingfield made a one-handed save from Scott Chaplin.
The resulting corner saw David Lorimer’s effort rebound to Michael Barwick, who made no mistake to put Hadleigh on level terms.
In the second half, Hadleigh keeper Ben Nower made a couple of fine saves, and Paul Donnelly headed off the line.
At the other end, visiting keeper Bedingfield did well to keep out Luke Hammond’s free kick at full stretch.
The decider came after 80 minutes when Lorimer twisted and turned his way through before placing his shot into the corner of the net.
n Hadleigh boss Ian Brown is reducing the average age of his side. Following the transfer of long-serving striker Duane Wright to Felixstowe, central defender Mark Goldfinch has left the Millfield after five years to join Ipswich Wanderers, the club where he started his career two decades ago.
