Hadleigh United have secured a raft of signings ahead of the start of their Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division title defence next month.

The Brettsiders have announced Woodbridge Town’s Aaron Churchyard and Needham Market’s Connor Corrick, as well as the returning pair of Ashley Sloots and Ben Deacon.

United kicked-off their pre-season schedule with a 3-0 home defeat to Colchester United Under-21s before losing 3-1 at AFC Sudbury on Tuesday, Scott Chaplin giving Hadleigh the lead.

Stuart Crawford’s side visit Grundisburgh on Saturday for their next pre-season outing (2.30pm).

Hadleigh Reserves’ home match against Melton St Audrys on Saturday will start at 1pm. This is so preparations can be made for the HUFC reunion in the clubhouse at 6.30pm, when anyone involved with the club over the years will be welcome to attend. Free admission.

n Halstead Town lost 5-0 at home to Concord Rangers of the Conference South in their first pre-season friendly on Saturday.

The Humbugs followed that up with a 1-1 home draw with Ryman League Premier side Witham Town on Tuesday. A minute’s silence was observed following the sudden death of Witham chairman Tony Last earlier this month.

Halstead boss Mark Benterman has completed the signing of goalkeeper Matt Walker from Braintree Town ahead of their home friendly with Maldon and Tiptree on Saturday (3pm).

Former AFC striker Ryan Swallow has also signed for Halstead, along with Llewellyn Evands and David Morgan.

n Long Melford started their pre-season fixtures with a 7-0 home defeat to the Conference Premier’s Braintree Town on Saturday.

It was the first run-out for many of Melford’s new signings, who have now confirmed that last season’s top goalscorer Nathan Rowe has signed up for next season.

The game was goal-less until the interval, but Braintree’s movement and fitness proved too much in the second half.

A hat-trick from Dan Sparkes, plus goals from Sean Marks two, Chez Isaacs and Ronnie Hawkins saw Braintree comfortably home, with Liam Hastie making several excellent saves to deny them further scores.

The Villagers host Ryman League Division One North side Brightlingsea Regent tomorrow before welcoming Barnston to Stoneylands on Tuesday (both 7.45pm).

n Cornard United have confirmed that Daniel Sakal, Jamie Chesney, James Beckett and Ezra Drann have all re-signed with the club for next season.

United boss Mark Hoskin prepares his side for their pre-season opener against Earls Colne this weekend.

Cornard visit the Essex and Suffolk Border League Premier Division side Earls Colne on Saturday (3pm).
