Gregory set to return to Cornard United

A disappointing week for Cornard United ended with the good news that Jamie Gregory is returning to the club after va spell with Stowmarket Town.

“This is a good signing who will strengthen our solid little squad,” said manager Paul Grainger.

He was far from happy on Saturday night after Cornard were beaten 3-2 at Great yarmouth Town, despite going two goals up in the first ten minutes.

“We conceded goals at bad times through individual errors,” he said.

“One a minute before the interval, and then very early in the second half. And their winner came right at the 

“Those last ten minutes are a problem for us.”

But Grainger is encouraged by the fact that Cornard, who found goals hard to come by earlier in the season, are now starting to score.

“We’re getting there. We’re not the finished article yet, but it will come,” he said.

Cornard have yet to arrange a date for the fixture at Braintree Town Reserves, which has to be replayed as the Ards fielded a suspended player.

Daniel Pass was booked towards the end of last season, playing for a team that has since folded, and was unaware that he had been fined. He was then suspended sine die for not paying the fine.

“We didn’t know he was suspended,” said Grainger, “and neither did he as the information probably went to the club. It wasn’t really his fault.”

Cornard won the original fixture 2-1.
