Bury Town have been dealt a major blow ahead of tomorrow’s Ryman League Premier Division encounter with Tonbridge Angels after goalkeeper Marcus Garnham revealed on social media he had signed for the Blues’ great rivals AFC Sudbury.

The custodian - who has been at Ram Meadow for the past seven years, during the most successful period in the club’s history – feels he needs a new challenge to motivate himself on the football pitch again.

He wrote on Twitter: “Just want to thank the supporters, chairman and managers for their support over the past 7 odd years. Defo have fond memories of the Ram.

“I wish every success to the lads at the club. Was a tough decision and not taken lightly, but the right one for me at this current time.”

Garnham, who turned down a move to Lowestoft Town in Vanarama Conference North in the summer because of travel issues, has won multiple player-of-the-season awards at Bury and was named the Ryman Premier’s best goalkeeper in 2011/12 and 2012/13.

Bury boss Ben Chenery confirmed youngster Steve Fenner, who has been at Debenham LC on dual registration, will keep goal for the Blues tomorrow.
