Cornard’s pointless run continues after leaders put them to the sword

Cornard United remain without a point this season after leaders Newmarket Town became the latest side to inflict a heavy defeat on them on Tuesday night.

Only poor finishing and some smart saves by the latest incumbent of the Cornard goalkeeping jersey, Marcus Weave, prevented the one-sided scoreline from ending in a cricket score.

An own goal saw Town ahead after just three minutes, before an Owen Paynter penalty sparked three goals in three minutes.

It followed Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Swaffham Town, where Chris Symes and Paul Grainger’s side had been trailing 2-1 with 88 minutes played.

Cornard travel to eighth-placed Braintree Town Reserves on Saturday (3pm), where Symes will face his former club.
