AFC Sudbury claimed all three points against rivals Needham Market in a 1-0 victory in front of a bumper crowd of 517 fans.
Dan Emmanuel scored the only goal of the game when he converted Dave Wareham’s cross just after the half-an-hour mark.
It could have been more for Sudbury, who forced Needham goalkeeper Andrew Plummer into several good saves.
Sudbury climb to fifth in the Ryman League Division One North table. Needham Market are currently in third.
Elsewhere in the Ridgeons Premier Division, Hadleigh United beat Felixtowe and Walton United by a 1-0 scoreline thanks to Ben Deacon’s 25 minute winner.
Meanwhile, in the First Division Long Melford suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat away to third-placed Whitton United that leaves Melford in mid-table.
Cornard United host Halstead United in an eagerly anticipated encounter tonight (Tuesday 3rd January - 7.45pm)
In the npower Championship, Ipswich Town lost 3-1 to Nottingham Forest at Portman Road. Forest had gone their previous seven games without scoring but that did not stop Marcus Tudgay scoring within five minutes, Gareth McCleary doubled the lead and Tudgay added another to secure all three points.
Grant Leadbitter got Ipswich’s only goal from the penalty spot.
Norwich City’s strong start to life in the Barclays Premier League continued after a narrow 2-1 victory over 10-men QPR at Loftus Road. Joey Barton opened the scoring in the 11th minute before his controversial sending off. Norwich capitalised on their numerical advantage with goals from Anthony Pilkington and Steve Morison to take all three points.
