Scott Yearling scored both goals as Long Melford’s impressive run of Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division form continued with a 2-1 victory away at Mildenhall Town, while there was also wins for Hadleigh United and Diss Town.

Yearling, who also bagged a brace the previous weekend against Walsham-le-Willows, struck twice after the restart at Recreation Way to send visiting Melford up to fifth in the table.

Mildenhall striker Dan Brown’s 10th goal of the season reduced the arrears with six minutes remaining, but Jules Mumford’s side held out to extend their unbeaten run to four outings.

Elsewhere, Needham Market ended a four-game Ryman Premier Division losing streak thanks to a 1-0 win over Leatherhead at Bloomfields, but Bury Town slipped down to 10th in the Ryman Division One North following their 2-0 defeat away at Harlow Town.

AFC Sudbury’s 10-match winning run was halted by a 1-1 home draw with AFC Hornchurch, while Soham Town Rangers left it late to claim a 2-2 draw from their home clash with Thamesmead Town.

Rangers trailed 2-0 with two minutes left to play, but goals from Will Lawton and Ross Paterson rescued a point.

In the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division, Hadleigh defeated Gorleston 4-2 and in Division One there was away victories for Ely City (5-1) and Diss Town (4-0) over Dereham Town Reserves and Downham Town respectively.

Meanwhile, Cornard United’s run of losing form stretched to seven matches as they fell to a 1-0 defeat away at March Town United.

The games involving Newmarket Town, Haverhill Rovers, Walsham-le-Willows, AFC Sudbury Reserves and Debenham LC were all postponed.

In the Football League Sky Bet Championship, Ipswich Town dropped out of the play-off positions as a result of their 1-1 home draw with Preston North End.

Daniel Johnson put the visitors in front at Portman Road in the seventh minute, yet the spoils were shared courtesy of Daryl Murphy’s eighth goal this term.

Elsewhere, Norwich City slumped to a 3-0 defeat away at fellow Premier League strugglers AFC Bournemouth.

Goals from Dan Gosling, Charlie Daniels and new signing Benik Afobe did the damage for the hosting Cherries, who have leapfrogged the 16th-placed Canaries in the table.
