Fierce competition for ever popular hill climb

Sixty-one riders took part, the heavy rain stopping just before the start, with the individual honours going to Chris Crabtree (Ipswich Velo) and Sandra Mackay (Veloschils Interbike RT).
Crabtree finished in 45.2 secs, short of the course record of 43.4, but a winning margin of 1.7 secs, and Mackay in 1 min 03.4 secs. Family commitments ruled out Samantha Seggar (Boxford Bike Club), winner for the past two years, and women’s course record holder in 54.7, which she set last year.
Molly Cutmore (Hadleigh Cycling Club) won the female juvenile (12-16 years) title. In the male juvenile section, brother Alex finished third.
CC Sudbury’s Connor Mothersole was second and club-mate Oscar Keep fourth. Freddie Grover (Stowmarket & District CC) took the title.
Byron Grimes (CC Sudbury) finished fourth in the male junior (16-18) section, which was won by Oliver Jones (Ipswich BC). Jones finished third overall.
Manningtree Wheelers, with three riders in the first nine, retained their team title, with Ipswich BC finishing second to retain their Eastern District team title.
Michael Ritchie, from Edinburgh Road Club finished in 52.3 to take 16th place. Ritchie is working in East Anglia, and put in some serious practice by going up and down the hill 17 times.
