Experience pays off

Halstead Road Runner Dan Hollinshead started the year with a superb sixth place at the Great Notley 5k park run. Hollinshead, who battled various injuries last year, put in a season-best performance to finish in a time of 21:04.

Stewart Ellis preferred the Colchester event finishing in 22:46.

Recent poor weather meant that conditions for Sundays Braintree Boggle trial marathon were ‘interesting’. Swollen rivers and streams, flooded fields and heavy underfoot conditions affected times.

However Bob Langley, using years of off-road running experience, put in yet another excellent run to finish fifth overall in 3hrs 59mins.

Other times: Andy Wilmot 5:18, Rosie Atkins 5:48, Del Harrington 5:48, Keith Thorogood 6:04.

There will be a further Beginners Group course starting on the Wednesday, February 4 at 6:15pm from Courtaulds Sports Ground, Colchester Road. The group is aimed at anyone aged over 16 years, who wants to try running. For further information contact Meg 07590 491120.
