n A wet and cold Good Friday saw 99 players compete for the Standard Trophy at Stoke-by-Nayland on the Gainsborough course.

The conditions were no match for an in-form Ian Collett. Collett was part of the victorious team that beat Orsett in the Norman Plumb Essex competition.

He was one of the six players who played away from home and won all three matches.

In this Stableford competition he was able to find four pars on the front nine, and three pars and a birdie, on the par five 16th hole, on his back nine.

A very creditable 41 points saw him lead the field by four points and ensure the first trophy of the season. The runner-up spot went to Roger Toone with 37 points. Paul Chambers, 36 points, took third ahead of Alan Austin on countback.
