Diss come out on top of top-of-the-table clash with Sudbury

Diss Rugby Club came out on top of a hard-fought top-of-the-table clash at Sudbury to clinch a 20-17 victory.

The visitors held a one point advantage over their hosts going into the match after both had enjoyed perfect starts to the London Two North East campaign and the encounter more than lived up to all pre-match expectations as a close battle ensued.

The first half saw Diss’ ruck and maul style best suit the blustery conditions as they used their superior strength to great affect, charging their way to a 17-5 lead at the interval.

Sudbury rallied after the interval and dominated much of the second-half, drawing the scores level with to set up an exciting finale.

However, Sudbury handed the visitors a golden opportunity after 66 minutes by conceding a needless penalty 30-yards out in a central position which Diss duly converted to snatch victory and strengthen their position at the top of the league.
