IMPRESSIVE DISPLAY: Sudbury ABC's Kie Bryan lost in a split decision

Sudbury ABC’s Kie Bryan put in his best performance to date in a split decision defeat to Dillion Moss on the Lowestoft show on Friday.

Bryan was giving away experience to Moss, an Eastern Counties School champion last year, and would have to be on his best form.

The Sudbury boxer performed well beyond his experience and it looked like he was going to upset the form book, but the judges awarded the home boxer a split decision win.

Sudbury coaches Jan Georgopoulos and Steve Mann were lost for words, but were very pleased with Bryan’s performance.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Sudbury’s Callum Hardy boxed on the St Ives show in a skills bout against home boxer Michael Ward.

Hardy has shown good progress in the gym and is finding his confidence, which showed against his toughest opponent to date.

In a 50/50 contest, he again showed improvement, with club coaches Connor Blezard and Vicky Tapp saying Hardy ‘boxed very neatly and is starting to transfer his gym form into the ring’.

This weekend will see three Sudbury boxers in action at the Great Yarmouth Hipperdrome on Saturday, which will see Eastern Counties Junior ABA finals and support bouts being held.

Sudbury boxers Scott Stannard and Bryan are both in action in supporting contests against boxers from Norwich City.

Jack Wiffen is going for his third straight Eastern Counties title against Morgan Taylor Smith, of Norwich City, in the under-52kg born 2002 class.

Wiffen, who received a walkover to the final after his semi-final opponent pulled out of last weekend’s bout, is looking to go one better this year having been a National semi-finalist and quarter-finalist in the previous two years.
