Bronson storms to new personal best in Kent

A strong Kent Marathon saw Halstead Road Runner Kathryn Bronson come just over a minute outside qualifying for the London Marathon.

Bronson was the first of four Halstead runners across the line, with a new personal best of three hours, 46 minutes and 53 seconds.

However it was not enough to secure an automatic spot at next year’s London Marathon.

Halstead’s Andy Wilmot (three hours, 58 minutes and four seconds) won the male over-70 category, while Rosie Atkins (4.03.23) and Dan Smith (4.15.14) also completed the 17-lap circuit in Gravesend.

Elsewhere, club captain Jim Clark and Dan Hollinshead both took part in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival on Sunday.

Hollinshead broke his previous marathon best time by over an hour, finishing in 3.38.21, while Clark came in with a time of 3.48.26.

Halstead’s Julia Woolnough completed the Colchester Castle 5km Park Run in 28 minutes and three seconds.

The previous weekend, Kate Allen took on the London to Brighton 100km (62 miles) Challenge, an ultra tough course more commonly known for the annual cycle event.

Running strongly throughout the day, she completed the course in a hugely impressive time of 13 hours 40 minutes to finish 56th from a field of 2,000 competitors.

Five Halstead Road Runners headed to Hatfield Broad Oak for the popular 10k road race. The event is run on closed roads and attracts an elite field of over 1,200 runners.

Husband and wife duo, Jon and Hazel Buist, were both delighted to record PBs. Only a few seconds separated Jon Buist and Andy Owens, who once again duelled with one another over the course. Club chairman Del Harrington and adventure runner Jim Leaney rounded off results for the club.

Times: Jon Buist 41:46 PB, Andy Owens 42:01, Hazel Buist 46:56 PB, Del Harrington 50:37, Jim Leaney 53:28.

The Runners meet on Wednesday evenings at Courtaulds Sports Ground on Colchester Road, for more information please call Jim on 07921 312361.
