Long Melford kicked off their pre-season with a 3-0 home defeat to Brightlingsea Regent but Friday’s game was marred by an injury to talisman Jamie Griffiths.

The forward, who hit 31 goals in 44 games last season, had to be taken to hospital after twisting his knee in the 70th minute and will require a scan to assess the extent of his injury lay-off. Melford, who host Boxted Lodgers in an additional friendly on Monday (7.45pm), have seen their FA Cup tie at St Margaretsbury moved back a day to Sunday, August 7, as they ground-share with the cricket club.

n Hadleigh United gained a 5-1 win at Whitton United last Saturday and will entertain Ipswich Town’s Academy side this Saturday (12pm). The match is a testimonial for defender Kris Rose, who has recently left the club after 10 years.

Hadleigh’s FA Cup match at Barkingside has also been moved to Sunday, August 7 (3pm), as has HalsteadTown’s home tie with Newmarket (2pm).
