It is as you were in the Ryman North title race.

AFC Sudbury put Saturday’s 4-0 home defeat against Thurrock behind them to return to winning ways on Tuesday while their conquerors were losing 2-1 at home to Harlow.

Sudbury were made to work hard for their victory, but once George Clarke had put them in front they never looked back.

Two goals in the final eight minutes wrapped up all three points.

Both sides had created chances, Tilbury’s Anthony Martin thudded a first-half header against the crossbar and George Clarke struck the inside of the near post following Jack Newman’s precise pass before the deadlock was finally broken.

Tilbury failed to clear a 69th minute corner and Jordan Blackwell’s cross was met by George Clarke, whose flicked header found the net.

Just two minutes after coming off the bench to replace James Baker, Liam Wales supplied a close-range finish after Craig Parker had turned the ball back across goal following Jack Wilkinson’s deep cross.

Henshaw added the third with a fine, low left-foot shot from Parker’s threaded through-ball two minutes from time.

AFC Sudbury: Garnham, Robinson, Wilkinson, Newman (sub Bailey, 85 mins), Henshaw, Mallardo, Blackwell, S Clarke (sub Berquez, 80 mins), Baker (sub Wales, 80 mins), Parker, G Clarke. Unused subs: Clements, Maybanks.

Referee: Paul Quick.

Attendance: 173.

Man-of-the-Match: Several candidates, but vote goes to Stefano Mallardo for an accomplished display at centre back for one so young.
