Whatever happened to preserving the historic buildings of our town?
The Anchor pub dated back to the 16th century. Protestant martyrs where confined there before being taken to Bury St Edmunds to be burnt in the days of Mary I.
Yet the present owners of the building have been allowed to reconstruct the front, removing much of it and putting in glass to display their wares.
This has drained the character of this fine building. Those responsible for giving planning permission for this work should hang their heads in shame.
