We face an uphill struggle to reopen

I WOULD like to write on behalf of the committee of the Northcroft Social Club.

It is now widely known that our club has been closed for some weeks due to the council taking our licence.

Since this time we have had meetings in hope that we might re-open in the near future.

This club has been operating for many years and seen many changes.

The closure has affected quite a few members including the Royal British Legion, which held its regular meetings there, as well as the ladies who enjoyed playing bingo there every few weeks. This is to name a few.

I therefore would like to say thank you to the members who attended the meetings and supported us as a committee. Also to the members who have come to me over the last few weeks offering their help as volunteers to do any sort of job they can to help us get started again, including bar shifts, gardening, cleaning etc. They all know that to re-open will be an uphill struggle.

Sadly we feel as though we have been treated a little harshly seeing that we have never had trouble in the club such as fighting or underage drinking although we seem to see it going on in other places.

Finally, I want to say thank you to Louise at the Snooker Club for coming to the rescue of the darts teams by letting us play there to finish the season.

A meeting is to be held on Saturday, July 14, at 11am regarding amendments to the rules that the council requires.
