I read with interest the article in the Free Press on July 18 titled “Head is determined to raise standards”.
Mrs Steele was suspended in January, 2012. She had been a successful headteacher for many years and the Ofsted reports were always positive for the school to which she dedicated much of her life.
The governors were removed last year and replaced by an executive board.
After four temporary headteachers and an executive board of “experts” appointed by Michael Gove, the subsequent Ofsted report was abysmal.
What has happened? Many thousands of pounds have been spent and standards have fallen.
Surely the team of governors (unpaid volunteers) could have done a much better job.
The children of Glemsford have sadly been let down.
