WEYBREAD INVESTIGATION: Murder suspect to be extradited back to UK
The suspect in the likely double murder of a Weybread couple will be deported to the UK later this week, after a European court’s decision to extradite him was upheld.
Ali Qazimaj, a forklift truck driver from the Tilbury area of Essex, had his second appeal against extradition rejected by the Luxembourg Court of Appeal, law enforcement authorities confirmed today.
The 42-year-old was arrested in Luxembourg City last month, in connection with the murders of Peter Stuart, 75, whose body was found in early June near his home with multiple stab wounds, and his wife Sylvia, 69, whom investigators are still trying to locate.
Qazimaj is now set to be surrendered to British police on Thursday, as part of their ongoing enquiry.
A statement from Suffolk Constabulary said: “Suffolk and Norfolk Constabulary Joint Major Investigation Team is aware of the decision made in Luxembourg and are working with colleagues on the continent to bring him back to the UK in due course.
“He will then be subject to legal process in the UK.”
