The Governing Body of the NHS West Suffolk Clinical Commissioning Group (WSCCG) has been shortlisted in the category Governing Body of the Year 2014 in the NHS East of England Leadership Recognition Awards.

The awards celebrate success in delivering quality healthcare services and this category highlights the commitment of the Governing Body to commission healthcare services that are genuinely improving the health and wellbeing of local people.

The WSCCG Governing Body has responsibility for making the right commissioning decisions and comprises eight GPs, a secondary care doctor, two lay members responsible for patient engagement and governance and a number of chief officers.

Dr Christopher Browning, a GP in Long Melford and chairman of the WSCCG Governing Body said: “This award shortlisting is fantastic and shows that our CCG is working effectively for the local people we serve. Every member of the Governing Body brings different perspectives, drawn from their varying experiences, backgrounds and roles.

“Of course, this recognition is not just for the Governing Body, but also for every member of staff, our healthcare partners and patients, and highlights how well we are working together.

“The shortlisting shows the successes recently achieved which include delivering 24/7 stroke care, investing in a psychiatric liasion service and establishing a new eating disorder service.

“The CCG has also been recognised for having the best stage one and two cancer diagnosis rates in the whole country.”

The category winner will be announced on November 27.
