Weekend Thought by Jean Crozier

IT hardly seems possible that here we are in March 2012 already. Where do the months go?

These are exciting times to live in – this year the Queen will celebrate her Diamond Jubilee, what a milestone, what a celebration planned.

Then, of course, this year will see the Olympic Games held in London. Whether you like sport or not you cannot help but be caught up in the countdown to the Games.

Yet all around us people struggle. We have high unemployment, with many people unable to find work. People are struggling with financial pressures. Tragedy is so often around us.

How sad that our brave soldiers lost their lives in Afghanistan, and all around us people are struggling.

Sometimes life just doesn’t make sense. Bad things happen to good people, and we all wonder why.

But even in those moments, some things remain true: God loves you; You are loved; You are never alone; And even the darkest night must lead to dawn.

The fact is, you can make a difference. God can work through you in every small act of kindness, and each encouraging word that brightens someone’s day. Your encouragement reveals God’s love to others.

Though we may not know what tomorrow may bring, God does; his love always watching over us, his hand always ready to guide.

As the prophet Jeremiah said: “‘For I know the plans I have for you’, declares the Lord. ‘Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’,” Jeremiah 29:11.

These words are as true for us today as when they were first spoken. If we are ready to put our trust in God, he has a purpose for us, so that whatever the future may bring, we know that God will be with us.

So as the months fly, let’s look for a time full of promise and expectation, for making plans and looking ahead ... though maybe also for some a time of anxiety as they look ahead to an uncertain future.

Whichever we are, we can put our faith in God and our hand in his – he will not let us down.
