Weekend Thought by Brian Pearson
So, it is all over for another year. Presents received, too much food eaten, wallet empty. So what now? What are your expectations for 2015?
You may have a holiday to look forward to; a special birthday or anniversary; or even a new job.
But there will also be those with little to look forward to, no cause to rejoice at the start of a new year.
The outlook could be bleak and lonely, or simply a worry about coping in the months to come.
Whatever your thoughts for the future, no-one knows what will happen tomorrow, and certainly not in the next year, but there is someone who does.
In all the razzle-dazzle of the last few days, it is easy to lose sight of the reason for the celebrations.
It was a birthday that we have been remembering for hundreds of years – the birth of Jesus Christ, and he knows all about us as individuals and what the future holds.
You may be thinking that there is no-one to turn for help and that no-one cares, but you would be wrong.
No-one has to face the future alone, because Jesus is always ready to help those who put their trust in him.
We may be rejoicing as we step forward, or we may be fearful, but we all need guidance and someone to take our hand.
Trust him and he promises never to leave you or forsake you. He will be there to help in the good times and the bad.
Stepping into the unknown can be daunting, but with someone with you who knows the way, it is so much easier.
The lord’s hand is always outstretched to those who will take it, so grab it, hold tight and walk out into the new year.
