TRIBUTES have been paid to Sophie Bavington, the 23-year-old daughter of councillor Tony Bavington and Great Cornard Upper School assistant headteacher Carmel Bavington, who died this week.

The former Wells Hall primary and Great Cornard middle and upper school pupil was described as “sociable and caring”.

She had worked at Hazell Court care home in Acton Lane, Sudbury, for four years, where she was a well-known and popular care assistant with “a beaming smile” but had stopped working there due to ill health.

She died at Fulbourn Hospital in Cambridge on Monday morning. Her death is not being treated as suspicious and a file has been passed to the Cambridge coroner.

Her father said he wanted to celebrate his daughter’s life and wanted everyone who knew her to come to her funeral, arrangements for which are yet to be made. He said it would probably take place at St Andrew’s Church, Great Cornard.

He said: “She loved people and animals, and the very many people in Great Cornard and Sudbury who knew her will remember her for her kindness and generosity, her sense of wit, humour and fun, and her artistic creativity. She always seemed so cheerful whatever her difficulties.

“She leaves me, her mother, her older brother, Tom, and her five-year old chocolate labrador, Palli. We were all so proud of her and will miss her so much. She will always be part of our lives.”
