Wait goes on for new bus

MONKS Eleigh bus campaigners are waiting to hear news on their efforts to get a new bus service up and running so villagers can get into Sudbury.

Campaigners from the action group Meant (Monks Eleigh and Neighbourhood Transport), have met with parish council and county council representatives this week to put their case for an initial one-day-a-week return bus journey to Sudbury.

Action group member Jacqueline Cooper Clarke said the group met with Bildeston Parish Council on Monday, and had a positive meeting with representatives from Suffolk County Council on Tuesday.

The group says that weekly bus services have declined drastically in Monks Eleigh as a result of local authority spending cuts, leaving some villagers isolated and having to rely on other transport options.

The group is calling for a service into Sudbury serving the villages of Bildeston, Chelsworth, Monks Eleigh, Brent Eleigh, Milden and Little Waldingfield.

Campaigners estimated it would cost £100 a day to run a 25-seater mini-bus but say the service could be self-funded through a season ticket.
