Village gets new homes

FAMILIES in need of affordable homes are being offered a helping hand in Long Melford.

Two new two-bedroom homes, which will provide much-needed affordable housing are being built in Bull Lane and should be ready by the summer.

Money for the £210,000 development has come from the Government’s Homes and Communities Agency, together with funding from Suffolk Housing Society and support from Babergh District Council.

Sue Wigglesworth, chairman of Babergh’s housing panel, said: “We are committed to providing as much affordable housing across the district as possible and I am delighted that we have been able to make good use of a piece of our land.

“These two new houses are an excellent addition to the affordable housing stock in this beautiful village.”

Since 2009, more than 200 affordable homes have been built in the district.
