Textiles firm Vanners announces long-term commitment to Sudbury with construction of new state-of-the-art factory
One of Sudbury’s largest employers has committed its long-term future to the town after announcing it will construct a new state-of-the-art facility to replace its current base of operations.
Textiles manufacturer Vanners, which has called Sudbury its home for more than 250 years, revealed plans for a multi-million pound investment to create a purpose-built factory.
The development will house all of its manufacturing processes, including dying, weaving and tie making, which the firm says will enable it to remain a “fully vertical operation”.
The board of directors unveiled concept images of the proposed facility by architects BRL, featuring open-plan offices and meeting rooms, display areas, an archives room and a production floor that incorporates the latest technology.
Construction of the new facility is intended to take place over a period of approximately 12 to 18 months.
Upon completion, the company, which currently employs more than 100 people locally, will move to the factory from its long-time headquarters at Gregory Mills in Weavers Lane, which it has agreed to sell.
Following the announcement, Tro Manoukian, chief executive officer of Vanners, said: “This is a monumental day for Vanners and we look forward to keeping you all up to date with our progress.
“The move will ensure Vanners is at the cutting edge of textile dyeing, weaving, design and luxury product for many years to come.
“We will be engaging with members of the public and the town council throughout the process, and will shortly appoint a panel within the business, across multiple roles, who will be responsible for the development of our new factory.”
Earlier this year, Vanners began the consolidation of its sites, after relocating its tie-making production line from Basildon to Sudbury, a move which the business claimed made it the first silk maker in the UK to have all of its operations under one roof.
