Two teenagers arrested in connection with suspected arson attack in Hadleigh

Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with a suspected arson attack, which occurred in Hadleigh over the weekend.

Emergency services were called out at approximately 1.20pm on Sunday, following reports that a fire had broken out in a flat in High Street, at the junction with Angel Street.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service deployed two appliances from Ipswich and one from Hadleigh to the scene, which extinguished the blaze by 1.40pm.

Nobody was injured as a result of the incident, and an investigation is now under way into the precise cause of the fire.

Officers from Suffolk Police also attended the scene and carried out enquiries, which led to the arrests of a 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old man, both on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life, burglary and possession of a Class B drug, namely cannabis.

The two suspects were subsequently taken to the Suffolk Police Investigation Centre in Martlesham for questioning.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward, and are particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw any suspicous activity in the High Street area prior to the fire.
