Residents in Glemsford and surrounding communities have be warned to be on the lookout for unlicensed traders after incidents of abuse and foul language towards residents.

Pauline Currie refused to buy anything when her door was knocked but offered the seller a couple of pounds as “it was Christmas”.

In reply she said she was given a foul-mouthed response by the seller.

Another elderly resident in Brook Street was also visited and allegedly verbally abused.

Mrs Currie said: “We are compassionate and caring, and people are fantastically generous in Glemsford when it comes to supporting good causes, but we don’t like being taken for a ride, or having abuse hurled at us on our doorsteps.”

Mick Baxter, Pcso for Babergh West Safer Neighbourhood Team, said residents that believed a seller was not legitimate or who was abusive or aggressive should call 999.
