Investigations into a sexual assault close to Sudbury’s water meadows are continuing more than a month after the incident.

Police have been unable to find the person responsible for the attack, which took place in an area close to Brundon Lane in the early hours of March 22 and was reported by a woman in her 30s.

The victim told police she had spent the evening in Sudbury town centre with a friend before they became separated in Infinity nightclub in East Street.

After leaving the club at around 2am, the woman said she had no recollection of the events that followed, until waking up an hour later in a field off Brundon Lane. She had been sexually assaulted.

By studying CCTV images, police have been able to narrow down the time frame for the attack, as the woman was spotted leaving a taxi office in Gaol Lane at 2.40am and walking away from town.

A forensic search of the Brundon Lane area has been carried out by specialist officers. No arrests have yet been made.

A spokesman for Suffolk Police said anyone with information regarding the sexual assault should get in contact.

“A police investigation into what happened between 2.40am and 3am on Saturday, March 22, is continuing and anyone who knows anything about this incident is urged to get in touch,” said the spokesman.
