Members of the Braintree Conservative Association have chosen their new parliamentary candidate to replace Brooks Newmark, who resigned after being embroiled in a sex scandal last year.

James Cleverly, who is chairman of the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority, will defend the seat in the upcoming election.

Mr Newmark won the Braintree seat in 2005.
