A man from Gosfield has become the third fatality of a head-on collision near Braintree last week.

The victim, who was in his 20s, died in hospital on Monday night after the crash in Gosfield Road left him in a critical condition for over a week.

He was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital after the two-vehicle accident between a Volkswagen Polo and a Ford Fiesta at around 5pm on December 7.

The Fiesta driver, David Bradley, 30, of Beckers Green Road, Braintree, was pronounced dead at the scene.

James Simmons, 18, of Hillside Gardens, Braintree, who was a back seat passenger in the Polo, also died at the scene.

Two women, aged 16 and 20, were treated at Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, for serious injuries.

Inspector Scott Egerton, of the serious collision investigation unit at Essex Police, said: “At the time of the collision, the Fiesta was on the wrong side of the road.

“We are investigating why this is and are aware of a number of driving incidents prior to the collision which involved the Fiesta between the Galleys Corner area and High Garrett.

“Specifically, we are looking to trace the occupants of two vehicles who may have witnessed the driving behaviour of the Fiesta.”
