Norman and Yvonne Gould celebrated 60 years of wedded bliss on Thursday, joined by their family for a meal at the Bull Hotel in their home village of Long Melford. Mrs Gould, 81, said the time had “flown by”, adding they had always wanted to be together. Having met in 1950, it was not until 1955 the pair married, having had to wait for Norman, now 82, to finish his national service.
They moved to the area from London in 1969, Mr Gould having worked as the caretaker at Great Cornard Middle School for 20 years before retiring.
The couple, who have two sons and two grandchildren, plan on going on holiday together before keeping the celebrations going with a party later in the year.
