TCHC education centre urges more young learners to join Sudbury programme after celebrating milestone

An education provider, designed to help those who have “fallen through the cracks”, has urged more young people around Sudbury to try the scheme out, as the company marked a significant milestone.

TCHC, which opened a branch in Sudbury back in January, staged celebrations on Thursday, in honour of the company’s 15th anniversary since launching, while students also produced articles about the provider using their newly-learned skills.

Currently operating eight programmes around England for young learners aged 16 to 24, it offers a six-month course for a functional skills qualification in English, maths, employability and customer service.

Richard Burling, tutor at TCHC in Sudbury, told the Free Press they set up in the town, after identifying a local need for alternative provisions for people who left school without any qualifications.

“It’s less academic and more about their employability and personal life skills,” he said. “It’s a smaller learning environment and we work with them one-to-one.

“I have seen a massive difference. There are people who have slipped through the cracks, who come in with low confidence and a lack of motivation, and we have given them a structure and got them to the point where they can pass their exams.

“There are a lot of people in Sudbury who would really benefit from what we offer. Some people may go to college, drop out and not know where to go, but often, we are the right environment for them.”

TCHC also offers work placements and various levels of financial support for its learners.
