Discussions are under way surrounding a proposal to introduce a cycle route through Sudbury.

Sudbury town councillor Tony Platt, who sits on the highways and footpaths committee, said the group had been looking at different possible routes.

“We have been trying to get a cycling plan developed,” he said at this week’s full town council meeting.

“What we have been trying to do is come up with an overall plan for our cycle network that would then be presented to the council to discuss.”

Mr Platt said the committee has had limited success so far but it will continue to work harder to get ideas moving.

But county councillor Colin Spence, who also sits on the town council, said a cycle route would be difficult to achieve without allocated funding.

He said the projects requiring funding have already been set in the town council’s local transport plan, which limits the council from embarking on new proposals which would require funding.

But Mr Platt said the idea was only in the discussion stage and would continue to be looked into.
