The organisations that will provide community transport in rural areas from June have been named by Suffolk County Council today.

The contracts to deliver services from June 16 have been won by local organisations which the county says have years of experience delivering services across Suffolk, working with the communities they support.

The chosen tenders are:

St Edmundsbury and Forest Heath – The Voluntary Network.

Mid Suffolk – Aspire Together.

Babergh – Haleigh Community Transport Group and subcontracting to GoStart (Sudbury).

Ipswich – Aspire Together and subcontracting to Royal Voluntary Service.

Suffolk Coastal – Coastal accessible Transport Services and subcontracting to Felixstowe Area Community Transport.

Waveney – Beccles and Bungay Community Transport and subcontracting to the Halesworth Volunteer Centre.

A county spokesman said: “This is part of a major council transformation programme to connect communities with the services they want and need.

“With the announcement of these new providers, some residents may find that there is no change in their current provider. However, they will enjoy the fact that they will only ever need to use one set of contact details for that service in the future. All the person will need to know is where they want to go.”

Cllr Colin Noble, Suffolk County Council’s leader, said: “I am really pleased with these new services, beginning in June. They have been designed to make things simpler for residents.

“We have been repeatedly told that the current system for using services is difficult to understand. In future there will simply be one phone number for residents to use to get the service they need in their community.”
