Suffolk garden party for National Carers’ Week
It was a garden party with a difference because every guest being served tea and cakes normally spends their day caring full time for a loved one.
It was organised on Tuesday by Suffolk Family Carers advisor Sophie Gower, in her mum’s Ixworth garden, for members of the carer’s group at Morton Hall’s Mount Farm Surgery as part of National Carers’ Week. The week aims to highlight the work of carers and support available to them.
Sophie explained: “It was something nice for carers because they don’t often have time for themselves. They save the NHS and Social Services a lot of money and they are all unpaid carers.”
They even had St Edmundsbury Mayor Julie Wakelam, picture in the spotted dress, making tea for them.
Suffolk Family Carers has a carer advisor in every GP surgery in the county and every carer is entitled to an assessment by Social Services to check the impact caring is having on them and whether they need help.
