Sudbury’s outgoing mayor has lost his seat on the town council.

Robert Spivey, who has now completed his year in the position, lost his seat in the parish elections, alongside fellow Liberal Democrat town councillors Oliver Forder and Tony Platt.

Their removal from the council echoes the Lib Dem’s disastrous results in both the general and district elections.

The only Liberal Democrat in the ward to survive the axe was Nigel Bennett.

The other members elected were Simon Barrett (Con), Jo Connah (Lab), Luke Cresswell (Lab) and David Holland (Con).

In Sudbury North Sue Ayres (Con), Simon Clarke (Lab), Linda Gregory (Lab), Nicholas Irwin (Ind), Ellen Murphy (Con) and John Sayers (Con) were elected.

Sudbury East saw Great Cornard parish councillor Mick Cornish (Lab) elected alongside Adrian Osborne (Con), Jan Osborne (Con), Jack Owen (Lab) and Sarah Page (Lab).
