A 28-year-old man from Sudbury has pleaded guilty to raping a teenager in the town earlier this year.

Marian Pavel, of Cavendish Way in Sudbury, appeared at Ipswich Crown Court today, where he admitted two separate charges of rape and sexual assault.

The incident occurred on Monday, May 28, at around 3.30am.

An 18-year-old girl had been walking from the town centre along the B1115 Waldingfield Road, when she turned left on to a cycle path near the bus stop opposite Wheelers Close.

As she approached an area of grassland, she was grabbed by a man, who then raped her.

Judge John Devaux, presiding, told Pavel he would remain in custody until his sentencing hearing on July 23.
