Sudbury flytipper prosecuted

A Sudbury man has been fined after wooden furniture was thrown from a van in to a field.

Andrew George Murphy of Springfield Terrace, East Street, Sudbury appeared in Chelmsford Magistrates Court on Monday (December 14) following the unauthorised deposit of waste on land on an unnamed road in Liston.

The offence, which took place on June 24, 2015, was reported to Braintree District Council’s Environmental Protection team.

Mr Murphy refused to return any correspondence or to attend an interview under caution.

He was summoned to Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on November 5, and pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The bench heard oral evidence from a witness and was provided with evidence from council officers.

Mr Murphy was found guilty and was ordered to pay a fine and costs totalling £1,720.

Braintree district councillor Wendy Schmitt said: “This case shows that it is simply not acceptable to dump things you no longer want in our district and spoil the environment for the rest of us.

“I’d like to thank the witness who helped us to take this action.”
