The birthday of Sudbury’s most famous son Thomas Gainsborough was celebrated on Saturday with a host of activities.
The day kicked off with the traditional garlanding of Gainsborough’s statue in Market Hill, Sudbury, before speeches from Gainsborough’s House executive director Mark Bills and Sudbury mayor Sue Ayres.
A procession then led the visitors and participants back to Gainsborough’s House for a day full of activities.
This included free entry, guided tours of the museum and gallery, craft and dressing up opportunities for children and live music from the Great Waldingfield Bush Band.
Arabella McKessar, development officer at the house, said around 200 people had visited with new ‘friends’ members signed up as a result.
